The service platform was initially developed as the internal IT infrastructure of the LifeGene prospective cohort project. From the start, it was clear that many other research initiatives would benefit from using the same infrastructure. The need to collect, store and retrieve data in a simple and secure way typically poses a challenge, and the requirements on information services are largely overlapping between studies.

In 2012, the Lifegene IT infrastructure were incorporated in, with the purpose of making the services nationally available for any research initiative within medical, behavioral and social sciences.

We are an information service infrastructure project, financed by the Swedish Research Council (“Database Infrastructure for Large Prospective Cohorts”), and currently affiliated to the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet. We work in close collaboration with to support research in medical, behavioural and social sciences all over Sweden. The project reports to the board.
